The 10U Player Pitch Division is intended to provide a competitive baseball environment that prepares young athletes for the next stage of their development while preserving the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for the game. Coastline Select Baseball is committed to conducting every contest in a professional, organized, and consistent manner so that players, coaches, and families can enjoy a first-class tournament experience.
Rule 1.1Regulation Game
Unless otherwise modified by these Official Tournament Rules, each 10U Player Pitch game shall consist of six (6) scheduled innings or one (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes, whichever occurs first.
Rule 1.2Time Limitation
No new inning shall begin after the official game time has expired. A new inning officially begins immediately following the recording of the final out of the previous inning.
The official game clock shall be the only time recognized for tournament play.
Rule 1.3Official Game Clock
Each game shall have an official time limit of one (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes. The official game clock begins upon the first legal pitch of the game. Warm-ups, introductions, and the pregame plate meeting shall not count toward the official game time.
Rule 1.4Official Timekeeper
The plate umpire shall serve as the official timekeeper for every tournament game.
Only the umpire’s official game clock shall determine whether another inning may begin or whether regulation time has expired. Personal watches, cellular devices, scorekeeping applications, or spectator clocks shall have no authority over official tournament time.
Rule 1.5Pool Play Games
Pool play contests may end in a tie if the regulation time limit expires or six innings have been completed.
Pool play standings shall be determined in accordance with Coastline Select Baseball’s official tie-breaking procedures.
Rule 1.6Bracket Competition
All single-elimination, semifinal, and championship games shall continue until a winner has been determined.
If the score remains tied following regulation play, Coastline Select Baseball’s official extra-inning procedure shall be used until one team is declared the winner.
Rule 1.7Tournament Game Guarantee
Every properly registered team shall be scheduled to receive a minimum of three (3) tournament games, unless weather, field conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances prevent the tournament from being completed as originally scheduled.
Rule 1.8Home Team Assignment
Home and visiting team designations during pool play shall be determined by the official tournament schedule.
For playoff games, home team designation shall be determined by tournament seeding or other procedures established by Coastline Select Baseball before the start of bracket play.
Rule 1.9Pregame Responsibilities
Before each game begins, both head coaches shall meet with the plate umpire to exchange official lineup cards, discuss any applicable ground rules, confirm player eligibility if necessary, and address any field-specific information before the first pitch.
Rule 1.10Pace of Play
Coastline Select Baseball places a strong emphasis on maintaining an efficient pace of play.
Teams are expected to transition promptly between innings, have defensive players prepared to take the field without delay, and ensure the next scheduled batter is ready to enter the batter’s box.
Actions intended solely to delay play or manipulate the game clock may be addressed under the Coastline Fair Play Rule and may result in corrective action by tournament officials.
The Coastline Standard
Coastline Select Baseball believes every team should compete under the same eligibility standards while providing every athlete with the opportunity to participate in a fair, organized, and professionally managed tournament. Coaches are responsible for maintaining accurate rosters and ensuring all participating players meet the eligibility requirements established for their division.
Rule 2.1Minimum Players Required
A team must have a minimum of eight (8) eligible players present and ready to begin the game. If a team cannot meet this requirement, the Tournament Director shall determine whether the game will be played, rescheduled, or ruled a forfeit in accordance with tournament policy.
Rule 2.2Official Tournament Roster
Every team must submit an official tournament roster before participating in its first game. Only players listed on the approved Coastline Select Baseball roster are eligible to compete during the event.
Rule 2.3Official Lineup Card
Before each game, the head coach shall provide the plate umpire with an accurate lineup card identifying the batting order and all eligible players participating in that contest. Once accepted by the umpire, the lineup shall remain official unless a legal substitution is made.
Rule 2.4Batting Order
Before the start of each game, the head coach must declare one of the following batting formats:
Nine (9) batters
Ten (10) batters utilizing one (1) Extra Hitter (EH)
Continuous batting order using all eligible players on the roster
The selected batting format must remain in effect for the duration of the game.
Rule 2.5Defensive Substitutions
Defensive substitutions may be made freely between innings or during dead-ball situations. Coaches are encouraged to provide meaningful defensive opportunities while maintaining the competitive integrity of the game.
Rule 2.6Late Arriving Players
An eligible player arriving after the start of the game may be added to the lineup provided the player has been reported to the plate umpire and opposing head coach. The player shall be inserted at the end of the batting order and becomes immediately eligible to participate.
Rule 2.7Playing With Eight Players
A team that begins a game with eight (8) eligible players may continue without receiving an automatic out for the vacant defensive position. Should additional players become available during the game, they may be added in accordance with these rules.
Rule 2.8Injured Players
If a player is unable to continue because of injury, illness, or another legitimate circumstance, that player may be removed from the batting order for the remainder of the game. No automatic out shall be assessed due to the player’s absence.
Rule 2.9Ineligible Players
The use of an ineligible player, an improperly rostered player, or a player participating under false eligibility may result in penalties determined by the Tournament Director. These penalties may include player removal, game forfeiture, suspension, or any additional action deemed appropriate to protect the integrity of the tournament.
Rule 2.10Coach Responsibility
The head coach is responsible for the accuracy of the team’s roster, lineup card, and player eligibility. By participating in a Coastline Select Baseball event, each coach certifies that all players meet the published age requirements and tournament regulations.
Rule 2.1110U Age Eligibility
Official Age Cutoff Date: May 1, 2026. Coastline Select Baseball determines player eligibility using a May 1, 2026 age cutoff. A player’s eligibility is based on their date of birth as of May 1, 2026, not their age on the dates the tournament is played.
For the 10U division, players must be born on or after May 1, 2015 to be eligible to participate. Any player born before May 1, 2015 is not eligible for the 10U division.
Please note that a player may already be 11 years old at the time of the tournament and still be eligible for 10U, provided they meet the May 1, 2026 age cutoff requirement. Eligibility is determined solely by the official cutoff date, not by the player’s age during the tournament.

- Date of Birth: May 17, 2015 – ✅ Eligible
- Date of Birth: April 30, 2015 – ❌ Not Eligible
Coaches are responsible for verifying that every player on their roster meets the published age eligibility requirements before participating in the tournament. Coastline Select Baseball reserves the right to verify player eligibility at any time during the event.
The Coastline Standard
The 10U Player Pitch Division is designed to help young athletes develop confidence, command, and sportsmanship while competing under live pitching conditions. Coastline Select Baseball expects pitchers, catchers, coaches, and umpires to work together to maintain a safe, competitive, and well-paced game. These rules are intended to encourage proper player development while protecting the health of every athlete.
Rule 3.1Pitching Restrictions
The following pitching limitations apply to all 10U Player Pitch games:
A pitcher may throw a maximum of seventy-five (75) pitches or record eighteen (18) defensive outs in one calendar day, whichever occurs first.
If a pitcher reaches the daily pitch limit while facing a batter, they may complete that batter before being removed.
During a multi-day tournament, a pitcher may not exceed twenty-four (24) total defensive outs.
A pitcher may not exceed one hundred (100) total pitches during the tournament.
Any pitcher who records more than nine (9) defensive outs in a single day must receive two (2) full calendar days of rest before pitching again.
No pitcher may pitch on three (3) consecutive calendar days.
A pitcher may appear in more than one game on the same day provided all tournament pitching restrictions are followed.
Tournament officials reserve the right to verify pitch counts at any time.
Rule 3.2Pitching Distance
The pitching rubber shall be positioned forty-six (46) feet from the rear point of home plate.
Rule 3.3Warm-Up Pitches
A pitcher entering the game shall be permitted up to eight (8) warm-up pitches before beginning their first inning of work. Between innings, returning pitchers may receive up to five (5) warm-up pitches unless the umpire determines fewer are necessary to maintain the pace of play.
Rule 3.4Mound Visits
Each team is expected to manage mound visits efficiently. Coaches should only enter the field when instruction or player welfare makes it necessary. Repeated or unnecessary delays may be limited by the umpire or addressed under the Coastline Fair Play Rule.
Rule 3.5Pitch Count
Coastline Select Baseball utilizes a pitch-count system to promote arm health and responsible player development.
The official scorekeeper shall maintain the tournament pitch count, and the head coach is responsible for monitoring the workload of each pitcher throughout the event.
Rule 3.6Pitching Eligibility
Once a pitcher reaches the maximum number of pitches permitted under tournament guidelines, that player shall no longer be eligible to pitch during that game.
If a pitcher reaches the pitch-count limit while actively facing a batter, the pitcher may complete that batter’s plate appearance before being removed.
Rule 3.7Illegal Pitching Activity
Any pitcher who intentionally violates Coastline Select Baseball pitching regulations or continues pitching after becoming ineligible may subject the team to disciplinary action, including penalties determined by the Tournament Director.
Rule 3.8Balk Rule
Official balk rules shall be enforced in the 10U Division.
However, if a pitcher commits a minor technical balk early in the game, the umpire may provide instructional guidance when appropriate if no competitive advantage has been gained. Repeated violations shall be enforced under Official Baseball Rules.
Rule 3.9Pace Between Pitches
Pitchers are expected to work at a reasonable pace throughout the game. Excessive delays, intentional stalling, or repeated interruptions that slow the natural rhythm of play may be addressed by the umpire or Site Director.
Rule 3.10Player Safety
The health and long-term development of young pitchers remains a priority for Coastline Select Baseball. Coaches are encouraged to exercise sound judgment when managing pitchers and should avoid unnecessary overuse, regardless of the game’s score or tournament standings.

Coastline Select Baseball believes great pitchers are developed through proper instruction, responsible workload management, and quality competition. Our goal is to create an environment where players can compete with confidence while learning the habits that support long-term success in the game.
The Coastline Standard
Offensive baseball is built on preparation, discipline, and execution. Coastline Select Baseball encourages hitters to compete aggressively while respecting the integrity of the game. These batting regulations are intended to create consistent game administration while promoting player development and fair competition throughout the tournament.
Rule 4.1Official Batting Order
Each team’s batting order shall be established before the first pitch and submitted to the plate umpire on the official lineup card. Batters must hit in the declared order unless a legal substitution has been made in accordance with these tournament rules.
Rule 4.2Approved Bats
Only bats meeting the equipment standards for the applicable division shall be permitted during Coastline Select Baseball tournament play.
For the 10U Division, the following bats are approved:
USSSA-certified bats bearing the official 1.15 BPF certification stamp.
USA Baseball-certified bats displaying the official USA Baseball certification mark.
Approved wood and wood-composite bats.
Tournament officials may inspect any bat before or during competition. Any altered, damaged, cracked, rolled, shaved, or otherwise non-compliant bat shall be removed from play immediately.
Rule 4.3Illegal Equipment
A bat determined to be altered, damaged, cracked, shaved, rolled, or otherwise unsafe shall be removed from play immediately. Any player or coach knowingly attempting to use illegal equipment may be subject to disciplinary action determined by the Tournament Director.
Rule 4.4Batter’s Responsibility
The batter shall enter the batter’s box prepared to hit when directed by the umpire. Unnecessary delays, repeated requests for time, or actions intended to interrupt the normal pace of play may be addressed under the Coastline Fair Play Rule.
Rule 4.5Bunting
Bunting is permitted in the 10U Player Pitch Division. However, a batter who squares to bunt and then intentionally pulls the bat back to slash at the baseball commits an illegal slash bunt. The ball shall immediately become dead, the batter shall be declared out, and all runners shall return to the bases occupied at the time of the pitch.
Rule 4.6Dropped Third Strike
The dropped third strike rule shall be in effect for all 10U Player Pitch games. Any play involving a dropped third strike shall be administered in accordance with standard baseball rules.
Rule 4.7Infield Fly Rule
The Infield Fly Rule shall be enforced whenever the conditions required under Official Baseball Rules are met. The determination shall remain solely at the discretion of the umpiring crew.
Rule 4.8Batting Out of Order
If a team bats out of order, the situation shall be corrected in accordance with Official Baseball Rules once properly brought to the attention of the umpire. Judgment calls made before discovery shall not be reversed.
Rule 4.9On-Deck Batter
The next scheduled batter should remain prepared to enter the batter’s box immediately following the completion of the previous plate appearance. Coaches are expected to help maintain an efficient pace of play by keeping hitters organized and ready.
Rule 4.10Offensive Sportsmanship
Players and coaches are expected to compete with confidence while demonstrating respect for opponents, umpires, and the game itself. Taunting, excessive celebrations directed at opponents, or conduct intended to embarrass another participant is inconsistent with the standards of Coastline Select Baseball and may result in disciplinary action.
The Coastline Standard
Base running is an important part of player development and should reflect good baseball instincts, awareness, and sportsmanship. Coastline Select Baseball encourages aggressive but controlled base running while emphasizing player safety and respect for the game. Runners are expected to compete with confidence while following the Official Playing Rules and the standards established by Coastline Select Baseball.
Rule 5.1Live Ball Advancement
Once the baseball becomes live, runners may advance at their own risk until the ball becomes dead or the umpire calls “Time.” All advancement is subject to the judgment of the umpiring crew.
Rule 5.2Base Running
Base runners are permitted to lead off, steal bases, advance on passed balls and wild pitches, and participate in all live-ball situations in accordance with the Official Baseball Rules. Unless otherwise stated within these tournament regulations, all base-running situations shall be governed by standard baseball rules.
Rule 5.3Stealing Bases
Stealing is permitted in the 10U Player Pitch Division. Runners may attempt to advance at their own risk once the baseball has legally reached home plate.
Rule 5.4Advancing on Overthrows
Runners may continue advancing on live-ball overthrows at their own risk until the defense successfully retires the runner, the ball becomes dead, or the umpire declares “Time.”
Rule 5.5Sliding
A runner should slide or make every reasonable effort to avoid unnecessary contact whenever a close play develops.
Malicious contact, intentional collisions, or avoidable contact initiated by the runner may result in the runner being declared out and additional disciplinary action if warranted.
Rule 5.6Head-First Slides
Head-first slides are permitted while advancing to or returning to any base except home plate. Any runner who intentionally slides head first into home plate shall be declared out.
Malicious contact, dangerous play, or unnecessary contact may result in an out, ejection, or any additional penalties deemed appropriate by the umpire.
Rule 5.7Courtesy Runners
Courtesy runners may be used for the pitcher and catcher of record at any time. The courtesy runner shall be the player who made the most recent out.
If no outs have been recorded, the last scheduled batter not currently on base shall serve as the courtesy runner.
Rule 5.8Fake Tags
Defensive players shall not simulate a tag on a runner when they are not in possession of the baseball.
A fake tag creates an unnecessary safety risk and is considered unsportsmanlike conduct. The umpire may issue a warning or impose additional penalties if the behavior continues.
Rule 5.9Runner Interference
Any runner who intentionally interferes with a defensive player’s opportunity to field a batted ball or complete a play may be declared out. Additional runners may also be returned or declared out if the interference significantly affected the play.
Rule 5.10Base Running Sportsmanship
Players are expected to run the bases aggressively while demonstrating respect for opponents and officials. Unsportsmanlike conduct, taunting, intentionally attempting to distract fielders, or actions inconsistent with the values of Coastline Select Baseball may result in warnings, ejections, or additional disciplinary action.
The Coastline Standard
Defense is built on preparation, communication, and teamwork. Coastline Select Baseball encourages players to compete aggressively while demonstrating sound baseball fundamentals and respect for the game. Defensive teams are expected to play with urgency, remain prepared throughout every inning, and avoid actions that unnecessarily interrupt the flow of competition.
Rule 6.1Defensive Responsibilities
The defensive team is expected to be prepared to take the field promptly between innings. Players should assume their defensive positions without unnecessary delay and remain attentive throughout live play.
Rule 6.2Live Ball Status
The baseball shall remain live until the umpire calls “Time” or the ball otherwise becomes dead under these Official Tournament Rules. Players are expected to continue competing until play has been officially stopped.
Rule 6.3Dead Ball Authority
Only the umpire has the authority to declare the ball dead. Once “Time” has been granted, all play immediately ceases and runners shall be awarded bases according to the umpire’s judgment and these tournament rules.
Rule 6.4Defensive Appeals
Appeal plays may be made while the baseball remains live in accordance with Official Baseball Rules. Coaches should notify the umpire that an appeal is being attempted before the next pitch, play, or attempted play.
Rule 6.5Obstruction
A defensive player who does not have possession of the baseball, and is not actively fielding a batted ball, shall not impede the progress of a runner.
If obstruction occurs, the umpire shall award bases that, in their judgment, would have been reached had the obstruction not occurred.
Rule 6.6Defensive Interference
Fielders are expected to compete fairly while avoiding unnecessary actions that interfere with offensive players beyond normal baseball play. Any intentional act that unfairly affects the progress of a runner or batter may result in penalties determined by the umpiring crew.
Rule 6.7Catching Fair and Foul Balls
A legally caught fair or foul fly ball shall constitute an out provided the fielder maintains secure possession of the baseball before it touches the ground. Runners may advance after legally tagging up when required by rule.
Rule 6.8Defensive Conferences
Coaches may request defensive conferences when instruction or player management makes it necessary. Repeated conferences that unnecessarily interrupt the pace of play may be limited by the umpire or addressed under the Coastline Fair Play Rule.
Rule 6.9Abandoned Equipment
Defensive equipment left on the playing field that creates an unsafe condition may be removed by tournament personnel or the umpiring crew. Coaches are responsible for ensuring their team’s equipment is maintained in a safe and orderly manner throughout the game.
Rule 6.10Defensive Sportsmanship
Defensive players shall compete with respect for their opponents, teammates, umpires, and the game itself. Unsportsmanlike tactics intended to distract hitters, deceive runners unfairly, or create unnecessary confrontation are inconsistent with the values of Coastline Select Baseball and may result in warnings or disciplinary action.
The Coastline Standard
Every Coastline Select Baseball game is played with the expectation that the outcome will be determined through fair competition, sound sportsmanship, and respect for the game. The following procedures establish how games are scored, when games may conclude early, and how tied contests are resolved during tournament play.
Rule 7.1Official Score
The official score of each game shall be maintained by the designated tournament scorekeeper. While teams are encouraged to keep their own scorebook, the official scorekeeper’s record shall serve as the official game record.
Should a scoring discrepancy arise, the plate umpire and Site Director shall review the situation and determine the official score.
Rule 7.2Runs Scored
A run shall be recorded when a runner legally touches home plate before the third out of the inning is made, provided the third out is not recorded on a force play or on the batter-runner before reaching first base.
Rule 7.3Official Tournament Result
A game shall become an official tournament contest once it has reached the requirements established by Coastline Select Baseball or is otherwise declared official by the Tournament Director due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Rule 7.4Mercy Rule
To promote player safety, sportsmanship, and efficient tournament operations, a game shall conclude under the Mercy Rule when one team leads by:
Fifteen (15) runs after three (3) complete innings.
Ten (10) runs after four (4) complete innings.
Eight (8) runs after five (5) complete innings.
Both teams must have had an equal opportunity to bat before the Mercy Rule is applied unless the home team establishes the required lead during the bottom half of the applicable inning.
Rule 7.5Pool Play Tie Games
Pool play games may end in a tie when the regulation time limit expires or six innings have been completed.
Tournament standings shall be determined using Coastline Select Baseball’s official tie-breaking procedures.
Rule 7.6Extra Innings
Bracket, semifinal, and championship games shall not end in a tie.
Beginning with the first extra inning, each offensive half inning shall begin with the player who made the final out of the previous inning placed on second base. Play shall continue until a winner has been determined.
Rule 7.7Tournament Tie-Breakers
When necessary to determine advancement or seeding, Coastline Select Baseball may use the following tie-breakers in order:
Overall winning percentage.
Head-to-head result (when applicable).
Runs allowed.
Run differential (subject to tournament limits).
Runs scored.
Coin toss conducted by the Tournament Director.
Rule 7.8Score Verification
At the conclusion of each game, both head coaches should verify the final score with the plate umpire before leaving the field. Questions regarding the recorded score should be addressed immediately following the game.
Rule 7.9Sportsmanship During Lopsided Games
Teams are expected to compete with class regardless of the score.
Coastline Select Baseball encourages coaches to continue teaching the game, demonstrating respect for opponents, and representing their organizations with professionalism throughout every contest.
Rule 7.10Final Authority
The Tournament Director, Site Director, and umpiring crew shall have final authority regarding scoring disputes, application of the Mercy Rule, tournament standings, and tie-breaking procedures.
Rule 7.11International Tiebreaker (Playoff Games Only)
If a playoff game is tied at the end of regulation, the International Tiebreaker will be used beginning in the next inning. Each extra inning will start with a runner on second base. The runner will be the last recorded out from the previous inning. Play will continue until a winner is determined. No playoff game may end in a tie.
The Coastline Standard
Player safety begins with proper equipment and preparation. Coastline Select Baseball requires every participant to use equipment that is safe, legal, and appropriate for tournament competition. Coaches are responsible for ensuring their players enter each game properly equipped and in compliance with these tournament standards. Maintaining these standards protects the integrity of the game and the well-being of every athlete.
Rule 8.1Approved Baseball Bats
Only baseball bats approved by Coastline Select Baseball for the 10U Player Pitch Division may be used during tournament play. Every bat must display the required certification and remain in its original, unaltered condition.
Tournament officials reserve the right to inspect any bat before or during a game.
Rule 8.2Altered or Unsafe Equipment
Any bat, helmet, or other piece of equipment determined to be altered, damaged, cracked, or unsafe shall be removed from play immediately.
A coach or player who knowingly attempts to use illegal equipment may be subject to disciplinary action as determined by the Tournament Director.
Rule 8.3Batting Helmets
All batters, baserunners, on-deck hitters, and youth base coaches must wear a properly fitted batting helmet equipped with manufacturer-approved ear protection while participating in live play.
Rule 8.4Catcher’s Protective Equipment
Catchers shall wear complete protective equipment during every live pitch, including:
Approved catcher’s helmet and face mask
Chest protector
Leg guards
Protective cup (strongly recommended)
No player shall occupy the catching position without the required protective equipment.
Rule 8.5Footwear
Players may wear molded rubber cleats or metal baseball cleats unless prohibited by the host facility.
Footwear that, in the judgment of the umpire or Tournament Director, presents an unreasonable safety concern shall not be permitted.
Rule 8.6Jewelry
Players should remove or securely cover jewelry that could create a safety risk during competition.
Medical alert bracelets or necklaces may be worn when properly secured.
Rule 8.7Uniform Requirements
Each team should wear matching uniforms displaying a permanent player number that is clearly visible.
Duplicate jersey numbers should be avoided whenever reasonably possible.
Rule 8.8Baseballs
Coastline Select Baseball shall provide the official game baseballs for all tournament contests.
Teams are responsible for supplying baseballs for pregame warm-ups and between-inning warm-up throws outside of official game play.
Rule 8.9Coach Responsibility
The head coach is responsible for inspecting team equipment before each game and ensuring every player enters the field with legal and properly maintained equipment.
Failure to comply with tournament equipment requirements may delay the start of the game until the deficiency has been corrected.
Rule 8.10Safety First Philosophy
Whenever a question exists regarding player safety, tournament officials shall always place the safety of the participants ahead of competitive considerations.
The Tournament Director, Site Director, or umpiring crew may prohibit the use of any equipment or suspend participation if they determine a condition presents an unreasonable safety concern.
Rule 8.11Banned Bats
Player safety is a top priority at all Coastline Select Baseball events. The following bat models are not permitted for use in any Coastline Select Baseball tournament. Any player found using one of the bats listed below must remove it from play immediately.

Penalty: If a player enters the batter’s box with a prohibited bat, the bat shall be removed from play immediately. Any play involving the illegal bat will be handled in accordance with the tournament rules and the Tournament Director’s judgment. Repeated violations by a team may result in additional disciplinary action.
Coastline Select Baseball reserves the right to inspect any bat before or during tournament play. The Tournament Director has final authority regarding the legality of all equipment used during the event.
The Coastline Standard
At Coastline Select Baseball, we believe that character is just as important as competition. Every player, coach, parent, and spectator contributes to the environment created at our events. We expect all participants to compete with integrity, demonstrate respect for others, and represent the game of baseball in a positive manner. Winning should never come at the expense of sportsmanship, honesty, or respect.
Rule 9.1Rules Interpretation
Coastline Select Baseball tournaments are governed by these Official Tournament Rules. Any situation not specifically addressed within this rulebook shall be decided by the Tournament Director or Umpire-in-Chief using the Official Baseball Rules and the established policies of Coastline Select Baseball.
Rule 9.2Coach Conduct
Head coaches and assistant coaches are expected to lead by example. Coaches shall communicate with umpires, tournament staff, opposing teams, and spectators in a respectful and professional manner.
A coach’s behavior establishes the standard for their team throughout the tournament.
Rule 9.3Parent & Spectator Expectations
Parents and spectators play an important role in creating a positive tournament atmosphere.
Supportive cheering is encouraged; however, personal attacks, profanity, threatening behavior, coaching from behind the backstop, or directing comments toward players, coaches, umpires, or tournament staff will not be tolerated.
Tournament officials may remove any spectator whose behavior interferes with the safe and respectful operation of the event.
Rule 9.4Ejections
Any player, coach, or spectator ejected from a game must leave the playing area and surrounding spectator areas immediately.
Additional disciplinary action, including suspension from future games or removal from the tournament, may be imposed by the Tournament Director based on the seriousness of the incident.
Rule 9.5Fighting & Physical Contact
Coastline Select Baseball maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding fighting or intentional physical confrontations.
Any participant who initiates or willingly participates in a physical altercation may be ejected and may be removed from the remainder of the tournament at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
Rule 9.6Respect for Umpires
Judgment calls made by the umpiring crew are final.
Coaches may respectfully request clarification regarding the interpretation of a playing rule but shall not engage in prolonged arguments, personal criticism, or disrespectful conduct toward tournament officials.
Rule 9.7Dugout Responsibility
Each team is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and organized dugout throughout the event.
Before leaving the field, coaches shall ensure that all trash, equipment, and personal belongings have been removed from the dugout and surrounding team area.
Rule 9.8Coastline Fair Play Standard
Coastline Select Baseball expects every team to compete with honesty and integrity.
Any deliberate effort to manipulate the pace of play, create unnecessary delays, exploit administrative procedures, or gain an unfair advantage through unsportsmanlike tactics is inconsistent with the standards of this organization.
The Site Director or Tournament Director may issue warnings, restrict team personnel, remove coaches, or impose additional disciplinary action when conduct is determined to be contrary to the spirit of fair competition.
Rule 9.9Authority to Maintain Order
The Tournament Director, Site Director, and umpiring crew are responsible for maintaining a safe and respectful tournament environment.
When necessary, tournament officials may address conduct not specifically covered by these rules if it negatively affects the safety, integrity, or operation of a Coastline Select Baseball event.
Rule 9.10Representing Coastline Select Baseball
Every player, coach, family member, and spectator attending a Coastline Select Baseball tournament represents not only their own organization but also the values of youth baseball.
Participants are expected to demonstrate professionalism, accountability, respect, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, both on and off the field.
The Coastline Standard
Every Coastline Select Baseball event is expected to operate with professionalism, consistency, and integrity. Tournament staff, Site Directors, and umpires are entrusted with administering the rules fairly while maintaining an environment that places player safety, competitive balance, and sportsmanship above all else. The purpose of this section is to establish the authority necessary to ensure every tournament is conducted in an organized and respectful manner.
Rule 10.1Tournament Director Authority
The Tournament Director serves as the highest authority for all Coastline Select Baseball events. The Director may interpret, apply, and enforce these Official Tournament Rules whenever necessary to protect the integrity of competition, resolve unforeseen situations, and ensure the successful operation of the tournament.
Rule 10.2Site Director Authority
The Site Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the assigned tournament facility.
Responsibilities include coordinating game operations, assisting the umpiring crew, addressing facility concerns, communicating with coaches, and resolving administrative matters throughout the event.
Decisions made by the Site Director regarding on-site operations shall remain in effect unless modified by the Tournament Director.
Rule 10.3Umpire Authority
The umpiring crew has complete authority over the playing field from the beginning of the pregame conference until the conclusion of the game.
Umpires are responsible for enforcing the Official Playing Rules, maintaining order, ensuring player safety, and administering the game in a fair and impartial manner.
Rule 10.4Rule Interpretations
Questions involving the interpretation of a playing rule should be addressed respectfully through the plate umpire before the next pitch, play, or attempted play.
Judgment calls—including balls, strikes, safe or out, fair or foul, catches, and similar on-field decisions—are final and shall not be protested.
Rule 10.5Protests
Coastline Select Baseball recognizes protests only for rule interpretations. Judgment calls made by the umpire—including balls and strikes, safe/out calls, fair/foul calls, and other umpire discretion—are final and may not be protested.
To file a protest, the head coach must notify the umpire and the Tournament Director before the next pitch, play, or attempted play. Once play resumes, the right to protest is forfeited.
A $150 cash protest fee is required at the time the protest is submitted. If the protest is upheld, the fee will be refunded in full. If the protest is denied, the fee will be retained by Coastline Select Baseball.
The Tournament Director will review the applicable rules, consult with the umpire(s) as necessary, and render a final decision. All rulings by the Tournament Director are final and are not subject to further appeal.
Rule 10.6Tournament Schedule
Coastline Select Baseball reserves the authority to adjust game times, field assignments, division schedules, or tournament format whenever circumstances require such modifications.
These decisions may be made due to weather, field conditions, facility availability, safety concerns, or other circumstances affecting tournament operations.
Rule 10.7Player Safety
The Tournament Director, Site Director, or umpiring crew may suspend, delay, or terminate play whenever conditions are determined to present an unreasonable safety concern.
Player safety shall always take precedence over the completion of any game.
Rule 10.8Conduct Review
Tournament officials reserve the authority to investigate any reported conduct that may negatively affect the integrity, safety, or reputation of a Coastline Select Baseball event.
When appropriate, disciplinary action may include warnings, ejections, suspensions, forfeitures, or removal from the tournament.
Rule 10.9Administrative Decisions
Circumstances occasionally arise that are not specifically addressed within these Official Tournament Rules.
In such situations, the Tournament Director shall make a decision that best reflects the mission, competitive integrity, and operational standards of Coastline Select Baseball.
All administrative decisions made under this authority shall be final.
Rule 10.10Professional Tournament Operations
Every Coastline Select Baseball tournament shall be administered with the goal of providing a first-class experience for players, coaches, families, and officials.
Tournament personnel are committed to conducting organized, competitive, and professionally managed events while treating every participating organization with fairness, consistency, and respect.

Rule 11.1The Hustle Standard
Players are expected to demonstrate consistent effort throughout every game. Hustling on and off the field, running out routine ground balls, and remaining engaged during every inning reflects the standard of Coastline Select Baseball.
Rule 11.2Ready Baseball
Coaches are responsible for keeping their team prepared throughout the game.
Pitchers should be ready to throw the next pitch, defenders should take the field without delay, and hitters should be prepared to enter the batter’s box promptly.
Efficient baseball benefits every team participating in the tournament.
Rule 11.3Coastline Fair Play Rule
The outcome of a baseball game should be determined by the players—not by intentional efforts to manipulate the pace of play.
Actions intended primarily to consume time or gain an unfair competitive advantage are inconsistent with the principles of Coastline Select Baseball.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
Repeated unnecessary defensive conferences.
Excessive delays between innings.
Unnecessary equipment adjustments intended to stop play.
Deliberately slowing substitutions.
Repeated requests for time without a legitimate baseball purpose.
Any conduct that, in the judgment of the umpire or Site Director, is intended to manipulate the game clock rather than continue normal play.
The umpire may direct play to resume immediately and issue a warning.
The Coastline Standard

While these Official Playing Rules address the majority of game situations, tournament operations occasionally require administrative decisions that support player safety, competitive balance, and the successful completion of the event.

Rule 12.1Official Tournament Schedule
Game schedules, field assignments, and start times shall be established by Coastline Select Baseball.
Tournament officials reserve the right to adjust schedules whenever necessary due to weather, field availability, operational needs, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Rule 12.2Team Check-In
Each team should arrive at the facility with sufficient time to complete player check-in, warm up, and be prepared to begin play at its scheduled game time.
Teams that are not prepared to play may be subject to tournament action as determined by the Tournament Director.
Rule 12.3Dugout Assignment
Home and visiting team dugouts shall be designated by the official tournament schedule or by tournament staff.
Teams shall occupy only their assigned dugout unless directed otherwise by a Site Director.
Rule 12.4Pregame & Between-Inning Warm-Ups
Teams are expected to complete all warm-up activities efficiently.
Extended infield practice, unnecessary delays, or activities that interfere with the tournament schedule may be restricted by tournament officials.
Rule 12.5Baseballs
Coastline Select Baseball shall furnish the official game baseballs for all tournament contests.
Teams are responsible for providing baseballs during pregame warm-ups and other non-official activities.
Rule 12.6Tournament Communications
Official tournament announcements regarding scheduling, weather, field assignments, and operational updates shall be communicated through Coastline Select Baseball’s designated communication platforms.
Head coaches are responsible for remaining informed throughout the tournament.
Rule 12.7Facility Expectations
Every participating organization is expected to respect the facilities hosting Coastline Select Baseball events.
Teams shall leave dugouts, bullpen areas, and spectator spaces clean following each game.
Organizations may be held financially responsible for damage resulting from negligent or intentional misconduct.
Rule 12.8Matters Not Specifically Covered
No tournament rulebook can anticipate every possible circumstance.
Situations not specifically addressed within these Official Playing Rules shall be resolved by the Tournament Director in a manner that best reflects the mission, competitive integrity, safety standards, and operating philosophy of Coastline Select Baseball.
The Tournament Director’s ruling shall be final.
Rule 12.9Acceptance of Tournament Rules
Participation in any Coastline Select Baseball event constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of these Official Tournament Rules.
Each organization accepts responsibility for ensuring that its coaches, players, parents, and spectators understand and comply with the standards established by Coastline Select Baseball throughout the tournament.

Participants are expected to treat all tournament personnel with professionalism and respect throughout the competition.
Rule 13.6Coastline Select Mission
Coastline Select Baseball exists to provide professionally organized youth baseball tournaments that emphasize player development, competitive integrity, sportsmanship, and respect for the game.
Every tournament decision is made with the goal of creating a positive experience for players, coaches, officials, and families.
Rule 13.7Continuous Improvement
Coastline Select Baseball will continue to evaluate and improve its tournament operations, playing rules, and administrative procedures.
Suggestions from coaches, players, umpires, and participating organizations may be considered when updating future editions of these Official Tournament Rules.
Rule 13.8Rules Not Covered
Coastline Select Baseball has established the tournament rules outlined in this rulebook. Any situation, play, or rule that is not specifically addressed will be governed by the current NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) Baseball Rules. If there is ever a conflict between this rulebook and the NFHS rules, the Coastline Select Baseball tournament rules will take precedence.
The Coastline Standard

Rule 14.1Injured Players
Any player who appears to have suffered an injury shall receive immediate attention. Tournament officials may suspend play whenever necessary to allow medical evaluation or appropriate care.
Rule 14.2Head Injuries
A player displaying signs or symptoms consistent with a concussion or significant head injury shall be removed from competition immediately.
Only the player’s parent or legal guardian, together with qualified medical personnel when appropriate, should determine when the athlete is medically cleared to return to baseball activities.
Rule 14.3Bleeding Injuries
Any player who is actively bleeding or has blood on their uniform or equipment must leave the game until the bleeding has been controlled and any affected equipment or clothing has been properly cleaned or replaced.
Rule 14.4Unsafe Equipment
Tournament officials may prohibit the use of any equipment determined to present an unreasonable safety concern.
The safety determination made by tournament officials shall be final.
Rule 14.5Heat & Weather Conditions
Tournament officials may modify game schedules, extend breaks between innings, or suspend play whenever weather conditions create concerns for player safety.
Hydration is strongly encouraged throughout the tournament.
Rule 14.6Player Removal for Safety
The Tournament Director, Site Director, or umpiring crew may temporarily remove any participant from competition whenever continued participation is believed to present an unreasonable risk of injury.
Rule 14.7Shared Responsibility
Player safety is a shared responsibility between coaches, parents, tournament officials, and athletes.
Everyone participating in a Coastline Select Baseball event is expected to communicate concerns immediately whenever a potentially unsafe condition exists.

Rule 15.1Responsibility of the Head Coach
The head coach serves as the official representative of the team during all Coastline Select Baseball events. The head coach is responsible for communicating with tournament officials, ensuring compliance with tournament rules, and maintaining order within their team’s dugout and spectator group.
Rule 15.2Communication With Officials
Questions regarding the application of a playing rule should be presented respectfully by the head coach only.
Assistant coaches, players, and spectators shall not enter into discussions with the umpiring crew regarding rule interpretations or administrative decisions.
Rule 15.3Maintaining Game Flow
Coaches are expected to help maintain an efficient pace of play by having defensive players ready between innings, keeping hitters prepared, limiting unnecessary conferences, and ensuring substitutions are completed without delay.
Repeated actions that unnecessarily interrupt the game may be addressed under the Coastline Fair Play Rule.
Rule 15.4Dugout Management
The head coach is responsible for maintaining a safe and organized dugout throughout the tournament.
Only rostered players, approved coaches, and authorized tournament personnel may occupy the team dugout during live competition.
Rule 15.5Respect for Opponents
Coaches are expected to model professionalism before, during, and after every contest.
Disrespectful comments, attempts to provoke opposing teams, or behavior inconsistent with the values of Coastline Select Baseball may result in disciplinary action.
Rule 15.6Communication With Players
Instruction should be delivered in a positive and constructive manner.
Coastline Select Baseball encourages coaches to teach the game while promoting confidence, teamwork, accountability, and respect for every participant.
Rule 15.7Responsibility for Team Personnel
The head coach accepts responsibility for the conduct of assistant coaches, players, parents, and spectators associated with the team.
Tournament officials may hold the head coach accountable when repeated misconduct by team personnel negatively affects the tournament environment.
Rule 15.8Protecting the Integrity of Competition
Every coach is expected to compete honestly and in the spirit of fair play.
Any attempt to gain an unfair advantage through deception, roster violations, intentional delay tactics, or other conduct inconsistent with the values of Coastline Select Baseball may result in warnings, ejections, forfeiture, suspension, or additional disciplinary action as determined by the Tournament Director.
Rule 15.9Commitment to Player Development
Winning is an important part of competition, but the long-term growth of every athlete remains the primary objective of Coastline Select Baseball.
Coaches are encouraged to emphasize preparation, effort, teamwork, baseball knowledge, and sportsmanship throughout every tournament.

The Tournament Director retains final authority regarding matters involving coach conduct, team management, administrative issues, and enforcement of these standards.

Every individual participating in a Coastline Select Baseball event contributes to the reputation of the organization.
Players, coaches, parents, spectators, umpires, and tournament staff are expected to represent Coastline Select Baseball with professionalism, accountability, honesty, and respect at all times.
Rule 16.6Final Administrative Authority
The Tournament Director shall retain final authority over all administrative matters relating to tournament operations, rule interpretation, and enforcement of Coastline Select Baseball policies.

Unless otherwise modified by these tournament rules, each 7U Coach Pitch game will be scheduled for six (6) innings or one (1) hour and fifteen (15) minutes, whichever occurs first.
Rule 1.2Beginning a New Inning
A new inning may only start if, according to the plate umpire’s official game clock, time remains before the established time limit expires.
Rule 1.3Official Tournament Time
Game time will officially begin following the pregame conference conducted by the plate umpire with both head coaches.
Rule 1.4Authority Over Game Time
The plate umpire is responsible for maintaining the official game clock during each contest. All decisions involving the time limit, including whether another inning may begin, are based exclusively on the umpire’s official time.
Personal watches, cell phones, scorekeeping applications, or spectator timepieces shall not supersede the plate umpire’s official game clock.
Rule 1.5Pool Play Format
Pool play contests may conclude in a tie if the regulation time limit or scheduled innings have been completed.
Rule 1.6Championship Play
Bracket and championship games shall continue until a winner is determined. If necessary, extra-inning procedures established by Coastline Select Baseball will be used.
Rule 1.7Minimum Games
Every registered team will receive a guaranteed minimum of three (3) games during the tournament.
The Coastline Standard
Coastline Select Baseball believes every eligible athlete should have the opportunity to compete in a well-organized and positive environment. These participation guidelines are intended to promote fair competition while ensuring every game begins on equal terms for all teams.
Rule 2.1Minimum Player Requirement
A team must have no fewer than eight (8) eligible players available and ready to begin play. If a team cannot meet the minimum player requirement, the Tournament Director or Site Director will determine how the game will proceed under tournament policies.
Rule 2.2Official Game Lineup
Prior to the start of each game, the head coach shall provide the plate umpire with an official lineup card identifying all players participating in that game. Once the lineup has been submitted, it becomes the official batting order for that contest unless otherwise permitted by these rules.
Rule 2.3Continuous Batting Format
The 7U Coach Pitch Division utilizes a continuous batting order. Every player listed on the official lineup will bat throughout the game, regardless of when or where they play defensively.
Rule 2.4Defensive Substitutions
Defensive positions may be changed at the coach’s discretion throughout the game. Rotating players on defense will not affect the team’s established batting order.
Rule 2.5Players Arriving After Game Time
Players arriving after the game has started are eligible to participate upon arrival. Once checked in with the head coach, the player shall be added to the bottom of the batting order and may enter the game defensively at the next appropriate opportunity.
Rule 2.6Playing Short-Handed
Teams starting a game with eight (8) eligible players may continue play without receiving an automatic out for the unoccupied defensive position.

Only players appearing on the team’s official Coastline Select tournament roster are eligible to participate. Any roster concerns should be addressed with tournament staff before the start of the game whenever possible.
Rule 2.8Lineup Accuracy
It is the responsibility of the head coach to verify that the lineup card submitted before the game is complete and accurate. Any necessary corrections shall be handled in accordance with Coastline Select tournament procedures.
Rule 2.9Player Injury
If a player leaves the game because of an injury, illness, or another approved circumstance and is unable to return, that player’s position in the batting order will be removed for the remainder of the game. No automatic out shall be charged as a result of the player’s absence.
Rule 2.10Head Coach Responsibility
Each head coach is responsible for ensuring that all players participating in the game meet tournament eligibility requirements and are properly listed on the official roster. The use of an ineligible player may result in penalties determined by the Tournament Director, including player removal or additional disciplinary action when appropriate.
The Coastline Standard
The 7U Coach Pitch Division is designed to provide young athletes with a competitive environment that also emphasizes learning and skill development. The coach’s role is to facilitate play by delivering consistent pitches, allowing the players to determine the outcome of each game through their own effort and ability.
Rule 3.1Offensive Coach Pitcher
During each offensive half inning, the batting team shall designate an adult coach to pitch to its hitters. The designated coach is expected to conduct themselves in a safe, respectful, and sportsmanlike manner throughout the game.
Rule 3.2Coach Pitch Distance
Unless otherwise approved by the Tournament Director, all coach-pitched balls shall be delivered from a distance of approximately thirty-five (35) feet from home plate.
Rule 3.3Pitcher’s Responsibility
Once the baseball has been released, the pitching coach should promptly move into a safe position and make every reasonable effort to avoid interfering with a batted ball or any defensive player’s opportunity to make a play.
Rule 3.4Accidental Contact
If a fair batted ball accidentally makes contact with the pitching coach before a defensive player has a reasonable opportunity to field it, the ball will immediately be declared dead. The batter shall return to the plate and the pitch will not count.
Rule 3.5Conduct During Live Play
While serving as the offensive pitcher, coaches may communicate with and encourage their batter. Once the ball has been hit into play, however, the pitching coach shall not intentionally interfere with live action or provide active coaching to baserunners while the play remains live.
Rule 3.6Defensive Pitcher
The defensive player occupying the pitcher position must begin each pitch with at least one foot inside the pitching circle. That player may react and attempt to field the baseball once the coach has released the pitch.
Rule 3.7Fair Pitching Standard
Coaches are expected to deliver pitches that give the batter a reasonable opportunity to make contact with the baseball. The purpose of coach pitch is to encourage development and game participation, not to gain an unfair competitive advantage by intentionally delivering unhittable pitches.
Rule 3.8Pace of Play
Pitching coaches should be prepared to resume play without unnecessary interruptions. Maintaining a consistent pace helps maximize playing time, keeps games on schedule, and reflects the standards expected at Coastline Select Baseball events.
The Coastline Standard
The Coach Pitch Division is designed to maximize opportunities for young athletes to develop confidence at the plate while maintaining an efficient pace of play. The following batting procedures are intended to create a fair and consistent experience for every participant.
Rule 4.1Plate Appearance
Each batter shall receive up to six (6) coach-pitched balls during a single plate appearance unless the at-bat concludes sooner under these playing rules.
Rule 4.2Swinging Strikes
A batter who accumulates three (3) swinging strikes during an at-bat shall be declared out, regardless of the total number of pitches delivered.
Rule 4.3Final Pitch Extension
If the sixth pitch results in a foul ball, the batter’s plate appearance will continue until one of the following occurs:
The batter puts the ball in fair territory.
The batter swings and misses for strike three.
The batter hits a foul ball that is legally caught by the defense.
Rule 4.4Called Strikes
No called strikes will be enforced in the 7U Coach Pitch Division. Strikeouts may only occur as the result of swinging strikes.
Rule 4.5Base on Balls
Walks are not awarded during coach pitch play. Every plate appearance shall conclude through a batted ball or a strikeout under these rules.
Rule 4.6Hit By Pitch
A batter struck by a coach-pitched baseball shall not be awarded first base. Unless the umpire determines that the pitch should not count, it will be included as one of the batter’s allotted pitches.
Rule 4.7Bunting
Bunting, slash bunting, fake bunts, or any intentional attempt to deaden the baseball is prohibited. A batter attempting to bunt shall be declared out, and the ball shall be ruled dead immediately.
Rule 4.8Batting Order
Batters must appear at the plate in the order established on the team’s official lineup card. Batting out of order shall be handled in accordance with Coastline Select tournament procedures.
Rule 4.9Batter Readiness
Batters are expected to enter the batter’s box promptly and be prepared to hit when directed by the umpire. Unnecessary delays may be addressed under the Coastline Fair Play Rule to maintain the pace of the game.
Rule 4.10On-Deck Batter
The next scheduled batter should remain prepared to enter the batter’s box immediately following the conclusion of the previous at-bat. Coaches are encouraged to keep their offensive lineup organized in support of Coastline Select’s Ready Baseball Philosophy.
The Coastline Standard
The base running rules for the 7U Coach Pitch Division are intended to promote player development, encourage smart baseball, and maintain a fair pace of play. Base runners may advance aggressively within the limits of these rules while emphasizing safety and good sportsmanship.
Rule 5.1Runner Departure
Base runners must maintain contact with their base until the batter makes contact with the pitched baseball. Leaving early is not permitted.
Rule 5.2Stealing Bases
Stealing is not allowed in the 7U Coach Pitch Division. Runners may advance only as the result of a batted ball or another live-ball action specifically permitted by these rules.
Rule 5.3Leading Off
Runners are prohibited from taking a lead before the ball is hit. Any attempt to gain an early advantage by leaving the base prior to contact may result in an umpire’s ruling under these playing rules.
Rule 5.4Advancing at Risk
Once the baseball has been put into play, runners may continue advancing until the umpire declares the play complete. All advancement is at the runner’s own risk.
Rule 5.5End of Play
The umpire will declare “Time” when, in the umpire’s judgment, the defense has established clear possession of the baseball within the infield and no immediate play on a runner is developing. Once “Time” has been called, no additional bases may be advanced.
Rule 5.6Early Departure Penalty
If a runner leaves the base before legal contact with the baseball, the umpire may stop play and return runners to the appropriate base or declare the offending runner out, depending on the circumstances and the effect on the play.
Rule 5.7Sliding
Runners are encouraged to slide when a close play is developing. Malicious contact, unnecessary collisions, or intentionally initiating contact with a defensive player is prohibited. The umpire may declare a runner out and impose additional penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Rule 5.8Sportsmanship on the Bases
Players should run the bases with respect for opponents and the game. Unsportsmanlike actions while running the bases may be addressed by the umpire or Tournament Director under Coastline Select’s Sportsmanship and Fair Play policies.
The Coastline Standard
Baseball situations can develop quickly during Coach Pitch. These procedures are designed to provide consistent rulings, promote player safety, and ensure all games are administered fairly by the umpiring crew.
Rule 6.1Live Ball
The baseball remains live until the plate umpire calls “Time” or the ball otherwise becomes dead under these tournament rules.
Rule 6.2Dead Ball
The plate umpire shall declare the ball dead whenever play has naturally concluded or when, in the umpire’s judgment, no additional play is reasonably developing. Once “Time” has been called, runners may not continue advancing.
Rule 6.3Infield Control
When the defensive team has established clear possession of the baseball within the infield and is no longer attempting to make a play on a runner, the umpire may call “Time” and award runners the bases they had reasonably obtained at the moment play was stopped.
Rule 6.4Overthrows
On an overthrow to first base, runners may attempt to advance one (1) additional base at their own risk.
Rule 6.5Additional Advancement
Following an overthrow, all runners continue at their own risk until the defense regains possession of the baseball and the umpire declares the play dead.
Rule 6.6Umpire Judgment
The determination of whether play remains live or has naturally concluded rests solely with the plate umpire. The umpire’s judgment regarding dead-ball situations shall be final.
Rule 6.7Ball Leaving the Field
If a thrown ball enters a dead-ball area or leaves the field of play, the umpire shall immediately call “Time” and award bases in accordance with Coastline Select Baseball Tournament Rules and the circumstances of the play.
Rule 6.8Defensive Appeals
Defensive players may attempt to make plays on runners while the baseball remains live. Once “Time” has been granted by the umpire, all play shall cease immediately.
The Coastline Standard
The purpose of defensive alignment in the 7U Coach Pitch Division is to provide every athlete with meaningful defensive opportunities while promoting player safety, proper fundamentals, and fair competition. Coaches are encouraged to rotate players defensively whenever practical to support continued development.
Rule 7.1Defensive Players
A team may have up to ten (10) defensive players on the field during live play.
Rule 7.2Infield & Outfield Alignment
A standard defensive alignment shall consist of six (6) infielders, including the catcher and defensive pitcher, and no more than four (4) outfielders.
Rule 7.3Outfielder Positioning
All outfielders must begin each play in the outfield and may not position themselves on the infield dirt or intentionally move into the infield before the ball has been hit.
Rule 7.4Defensive Pitcher
The defensive player occupying the pitcher position shall begin each pitch with at least one foot inside the pitching circle. Once the coach has released the baseball, the player may react freely to field the ball.
Rule 7.5Catcher’s Position
The catcher must remain in the catcher’s box until the pitch has crossed home plate or has been contacted by the batter. Catchers are required to wear all mandatory protective equipment during live play.
Rule 7.6Fair Defensive Positioning
Defensive players should be positioned in locations that promote fair competition and player safety. Positioning a player in an unsafe location or intentionally obstructing offensive players is not permitted.
Rule 7.7Defensive Rotation
Coaches are encouraged to provide players with opportunities to experience multiple defensive positions throughout the tournament whenever practical. Defensive substitutions may be made freely and do not affect the team’s batting order.
Rule 7.8Unsportsmanlike Defensive Conduct
Actions intended to distract, intimidate, or unfairly interfere with the batter or baserunners are prohibited. The umpire may issue a warning or take appropriate action if unsportsmanlike conduct occurs.
Rule 7.9Coach Instruction
Coaches may provide instruction from the dugout or designated coaching areas. Coaches are expected to avoid entering the field of play during a live ball unless directed by the umpire or required for player safety.
Rule 8.1Offensive Run Limit
Each offensive half inning shall conclude when either three (3) outs have been recorded or seven (7) runs have scored, whichever occurs first.
Rule 8.2Unlimited Final Inning
The scheduled sixth inning, as well as any extra inning played to determine a winner, shall have no run limit unless otherwise announced by the Tournament Director prior to the start of the event.
Rule 8.3Runs Scored
A run shall count when a baserunner legally touches home plate before the third out of the inning is recorded, provided the third out is not the result of a force play or the batter-runner being retired before reaching first base.
Rule 8.4Half Inning Complete
Once the inning-ending out has been recorded or the maximum run limit has been reached, play shall immediately conclude and teams will prepare to change sides.
Rule 8.5Official Score
The official score shall be maintained by the designated scorekeeper. In the event of a scoring discrepancy, the plate umpire and Site Director shall have final authority in determining the official game score.
Rule 8.6Scorekeeping Responsibility
Each team is encouraged to keep its own scorebook throughout the game. If a scoring question arises, both scorebooks may be reviewed; however, the official scorekeeper’s record, as confirmed by the Site Director, shall be considered the official game record.
Rule 9.1Mercy Rule Guidelines
A game may be concluded under the Mercy Rule when one team has established the following lead at the completion of the listed innings:
Fifteen (15) runs after three (3) complete innings.
Ten (10) runs after four (4) complete innings.
Eight (8) runs after five (5) complete innings.
These run differentials apply only after both teams have had an equal opportunity to bat during the applicable inning.
Rule 9.2Equal Offensive Opportunity
The Mercy Rule shall not take effect until the visiting and home teams have each completed the same number of offensive innings. If the home team reaches the required run differential while batting in the bottom half of the inning, the game shall immediately be declared complete.
Rule 9.3Official Tournament Game
Any contest ended under the Mercy Rule shall be considered a regulation game and recorded as an official tournament result.
Rule 9.4Sportsmanship Expectations
Coaches, players, and spectators are expected to display respect and professionalism regardless of the score. Coastline Select Baseball encourages teams to compete with class while honoring the values of youth baseball before, during, and after every game.
Rule 9.5Tournament Administration
The Tournament Director, Site Director, and umpiring crew shall have the authority to determine when Mercy Rule conditions have been met and to officially conclude the game. Their ruling regarding the application of the Mercy Rule shall be final.
Rule 9.6International Tiebreaker (Playoff Games Only)
If a playoff game is tied at the end of regulation, the International Tiebreaker will be used beginning in the next inning. Each extra inning will start with a runner on second base. The runner will be the last recorded out from the previous inning. Play will continue until a winner is determined. No playoff game may end in a tie.
The Coastline Standard
Player safety is a top priority at every Coastline Select Baseball event. All equipment used during tournament play must be properly maintained, age-appropriate, and comply with the standards established for the 7U Coach Pitch Division. Coaches are responsible for inspecting their team’s equipment before every game.
Rule 10.1Approved Bats
Only bats displaying a current USA Baseball certification mark are permitted in the 7U Coach Pitch Division. Every bat must remain in its original factory condition and meet all applicable manufacturer specifications.
Rule 10.2Illegal or Altered Equipment
Any bat that has been altered, rolled, shaved, cracked, damaged, or otherwise modified shall be considered ineligible for use. The plate umpire, Site Director, or Tournament Director may remove any bat or piece of equipment they determine to be unsafe or non-compliant.
Rule 10.3Bat Inspection
Tournament officials reserve the right to inspect a player’s bat or other equipment at any time before or during a game. If equipment is determined to be unsafe or does not comply with tournament standards, it must be removed from play immediately.
Rule 10.4Batting Helmets
All batters, baserunners, on-deck hitters, and player base coaches must wear an approved batting helmet while participating in live play.
Rule 10.5Catcher’s Equipment
Players serving as catcher must wear complete protective equipment, including:
Catcher’s helmet with face mask
Chest protector
Leg guards
Athletic cup is strongly recommended
No player may catch without the required protective equipment.
Rule 10.6Footwear
Metal cleats are prohibited in the 7U Coach Pitch Division. Players must wear molded rubber cleats, turf shoes, or athletic shoes that are considered safe for play.
Rule 10.7Baseballs
Coastline Select Baseball will provide the official game baseballs for every tournament contest. Teams are responsible for providing baseballs only for warm-ups before and after games.
Rule 10.8Coach Responsibility
Each head coach is responsible for ensuring that all equipment used by their players complies with Coastline Select Baseball Tournament Rules before the start of each game.
Rule 10.9Jewelry & Safety
For the safety of all participants, players should remove or securely cover jewelry that may present a risk during play. Medical alert jewelry may be worn as appropriate.
Rule 10.10Banned Bats
Player safety is a top priority at all Coastline Select Baseball events. The following bat models are not permitted for use in any Coastline Select Baseball tournament. Any player found using one of the bats listed below must remove it from play immediately.

Penalty: If a player enters the batter’s box with a prohibited bat, the bat shall be removed from play immediately. Any play involving the illegal bat will be handled in accordance with the tournament rules and the Tournament Director’s judgment. Repeated violations by a team may result in additional disciplinary action.
Coastline Select Baseball reserves the right to inspect any bat before or during tournament play. The Tournament Director has final authority regarding the legality of all equipment used during the event.
The Coastline Standard
The reputation of Coastline Select Baseball is built not only on competition, but also on the character displayed by everyone who participates in our events. Players, coaches, parents, and spectators are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects respect for the game, respect for one another, and respect for tournament officials. Every Coastline Select event is intended to provide a competitive, family-oriented atmosphere where integrity, sportsmanship, and player development remain the highest priorities.
Rule 11.1Player Expectations
Players are expected to compete with effort, discipline, and respect throughout the tournament. Unsportsmanlike actions, abusive language, taunting, or behavior that brings discredit to the game may result in disciplinary action.
Rule 11.2Coach Responsibilities
Head coaches are responsible for the conduct of their players, assistant coaches, and team personnel. Coaches are expected to demonstrate professionalism, communicate respectfully with tournament officials, and serve as positive role models throughout the event.
Rule 11.3Parent & Spectator Conduct
Parents, family members, and spectators are expected to encourage all participants in a respectful manner. Profanity, personal attacks, threatening behavior, or interference with players, coaches, umpires, or tournament staff will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the facility.
Rule 11.4Ejections
Any coach, player, or spectator removed from a game by an umpire or tournament official must immediately leave the playing area and surrounding spectator areas. Additional disciplinary action, including suspension from future games or tournament removal, may be imposed at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
Rule 11.5Physical Altercations
Coastline Select Baseball maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding fighting or intentional physical confrontations. Any participant who initiates or willingly engages in a physical altercation is subject to immediate ejection and may face suspension or removal from the remainder of the tournament.
Rule 11.6Respect for Officials
The judgment decisions of the umpiring crew are final and are not subject to protest. Coaches may respectfully request clarification regarding the interpretation of a playing rule; however, confrontational behavior, prolonged arguments, or disrespect toward tournament officials will not be permitted.
Rule 11.7Dugout Responsibility
Each team is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized dugout throughout the event. Coaches are expected to ensure that all equipment, trash, and personal belongings are removed before leaving the field following each game.
Rule 11.8Tobacco, Alcohol & Controlled Substances
The use of tobacco products, vaping devices, alcoholic beverages, or illegal controlled substances is prohibited on the playing field, inside the dugouts, and in any restricted tournament areas during Coastline Select Baseball events.
Rule 11.9Authority to Maintain Order
The Tournament Director and Site Director reserve the authority to address any conduct that negatively affects the safety, integrity, or reputation of a Coastline Select Baseball event. Appropriate disciplinary action may be taken whenever necessary to preserve a safe and respectful tournament environment.
The Coastline Standard
Coastline Select Baseball was established with the belief that youth baseball should be played with integrity, respect, and professionalism. While competition is an important part of every event, our organization places equal value on sportsmanship, player development, pace of play, and creating a positive experience for every athlete, coach, and family. The following standards represent the expectations of every team participating in a Coastline Select Baseball event.
Rule 12.1Coastline Hustle Standard
Players are expected to hustle on and off the field between innings and compete with maximum effort throughout the game. Coaches should have their defensive team ready to take the field promptly while ensuring the next batter is prepared to begin the offensive half inning without unnecessary delay.
Rule 12.2Ready Baseball Philosophy
Coastline Select Baseball promotes “Ready Baseball.” Teams are expected to remain organized and prepared throughout the game. Players should know their defensive assignments, batters should be ready for their turn at the plate, and coaches should make every reasonable effort to keep the game moving efficiently.
Rule 12.3Coastline Fair Play Rule
Games should be decided by the players on the field—not by intentional attempts to manipulate the game clock.
Deliberate actions intended to slow the pace of play, consume unnecessary time, or create an unfair competitive advantage are not consistent with the standards of Coastline Select Baseball.
Examples may include, but are not limited to:
Repeated unnecessary coach conferences.
Delaying the start of an inning.
Excessive equipment adjustments without a legitimate reason.
Intentionally delaying a batter from entering the batter’s box.
Unnecessary defensive substitutions made solely to consume time.
Repeated requests for time without a baseball-related purpose.
Any conduct that, in the judgment of the umpire or Site Director, is intended to manipulate the game clock rather than continue normal play.
If such conduct is identified, the umpire may issue a warning and direct play to resume immediately.
Should the conduct continue, or if the Site Director determines the actions were intentional and materially affected the fairness of the game, the Site Director may impose appropriate disciplinary action. Depending on the severity of the violation, penalties may include restrictions on conferences, removal of a coach, additional disciplinary measures, or forfeiture of the game in cases involving repeated or egregious attempts to gain an unfair advantage through intentional delay.
All decisions made by the Site Director under this rule shall be final.
Rule 12.4Respect for the Game
Players, coaches, and spectators are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on their team, their organization, and the game of baseball. Respect for opponents, umpires, tournament staff, and the facility is expected at all times.
Rule 12.5Player Development
The 7U Coach Pitch Division exists to provide young athletes with opportunities to learn, improve, and build confidence through competition. While winning is an important part of the game, Coastline Select Baseball encourages coaches to prioritize instruction, teamwork, and player growth throughout every tournament.
Rule 12.6Opponent Recognition
Following the conclusion of each game, teams are encouraged to participate in a postgame handshake line as a demonstration of respect for their opponents. Coaches are also encouraged to recognize outstanding effort, sportsmanship, or hustle displayed by members of the opposing team whenever appropriate.
Rule 12.7Representing Coastline Select
Every individual participating in a Coastline Select Baseball event contributes to the reputation of the organization. Players, coaches, families, and tournament staff are expected to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and respect both on and off the field.
The Coastline Standard
Every Coastline Select Baseball event is managed with the goal of providing a fair, organized, and professional tournament experience. Tournament officials are expected to apply these rules consistently while placing player safety, sportsmanship, and the integrity of the game above all else.
Rule 13.1Tournament Director Authority
The Tournament Director serves as the final authority on all tournament operations. The Director reserves the right to interpret, enforce, and apply these rules whenever necessary to ensure fair competition, maintain the tournament schedule, and protect the integrity of Coastline Select Baseball.
Rule 13.2Site Director Authority
The Site Director is responsible for the daily operation of games at the assigned facility. This includes coordinating with umpires, addressing field concerns, resolving administrative issues, and enforcing Coastline Select Baseball Tournament Rules. Decisions made by the Site Director regarding on-site tournament operations shall be final unless otherwise reviewed by the Tournament Director.
Rule 13.3Umpire Authority
The umpiring crew has complete authority over the playing field during each game. Umpires are responsible for enforcing the Official Playing Rules of Coastline Select Baseball, maintaining order, and ensuring games are conducted in a safe and sportsmanlike manner.
Rule 13.4Rule Interpretations
Questions involving the interpretation of a playing rule must be brought to the attention of the plate umpire before the next pitch or play. Judgment calls, including balls, strikes, safe/out, and fair/foul decisions, are final and are not subject to protest.
Rule 13.5Game Protests
Only matters involving the interpretation or application of a playing rule may be protested. Judgment calls made by the umpiring crew are not eligible for protest.
Any protest must be presented by the head coach to the plate umpire before the next pitch, play, or the conclusion of the game, whichever occurs first.
Rule 13.6Tournament Schedule
Coastline Select Baseball reserves the right to adjust game times, field assignments, tournament format, or scheduling when necessary due to weather, field conditions, safety concerns, or circumstances beyond the organization’s control.
Rule 13.7Player Safety
The Tournament Director, Site Director, or umpiring crew may suspend or stop play whenever conditions are considered unsafe for players, coaches, spectators, or tournament personnel.
Rule 13.8Final Decisions
Any situation not specifically addressed within these tournament rules shall be resolved by the Tournament Director. All decisions made under this authority shall be considered final.
Rule 13.9Interpretation of Rules
These rules are intended to promote fair competition and efficient tournament operations. Tournament officials may interpret these rules in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and standards of Coastline Select Baseball when unusual situations arise.
The Coastline Standard
The safety of our players, coaches, families, umpires, and tournament staff will always be the highest priority. While Coastline Select Baseball is committed to completing every scheduled event, unforeseen circumstances such as severe weather or unsafe field conditions may require adjustments to the tournament schedule. Every decision will be made with player safety, competitive fairness, and the overall tournament experience in mind.
Rule 14.1Weather Delays
Tournament games may be delayed, suspended, postponed, shortened, relocated, or canceled due to inclement weather, lightning, unsafe playing conditions, or any circumstance that could compromise the safety of participants.
Rule 14.2Suspension of Play
The Tournament Director, Site Director, or umpiring crew has the authority to immediately suspend play whenever weather or field conditions create an unsafe environment. Play will resume only after tournament officials determine that conditions are suitable for competition.
Rule 14.3Tournament Adjustments
When necessary to preserve the tournament schedule, Coastline Select Baseball reserves the right to modify game times, field assignments, game lengths, or tournament format. Every reasonable effort will be made to provide each team with its guaranteed number of games whenever conditions permit.
Rule 14.4Field Assignments
Games may be moved to another field or tournament site when necessary due to weather, maintenance, scheduling conflicts, or other operational circumstances. Tournament officials will communicate any changes as quickly as reasonably possible.
Rule 14.5Incomplete Games
If a game is suspended before its completion because of weather or another unforeseen circumstance, the Tournament Director shall determine whether the game will be resumed, replayed, declared official, or canceled based on the tournament schedule and the circumstances surrounding the interruption.
Rule 14.6Official Tournament Communication
Head coaches are responsible for monitoring all official Coastline Select Baseball communications regarding weather updates, scheduling changes, field assignments, and tournament announcements. Information distributed by tournament staff shall be considered the official source for all event-related updates.
Rule 14.7Operational Authority
Tournament officials reserve the right to make reasonable adjustments necessary to ensure the successful operation of the event. These adjustments may include schedule revisions, field changes, or other administrative decisions made in the best interest of the tournament and its participants.
Rule 14.8Final Authority
All decisions regarding weather delays, field conditions, scheduling modifications, and tournament operations shall be made by the Tournament Director. Such decisions are final and are not subject to protest or appeal.
The Coastline Standard
Coastline Select Baseball is committed to conducting professionally organized tournaments while providing participating teams with clear and consistent registration policies. Tournament planning requires substantial financial commitments before the first pitch is thrown, including facility reservations, insurance, baseballs, awards, staffing, scheduling, and administrative expenses. The following policy has been established to ensure fairness to all teams while allowing Coastline Select Baseball to successfully operate each event.
Rule 15.1Tournament Registration
A team’s place in the tournament is reserved only after the official entry fee has been paid in full and the registration has been accepted by Coastline Select Baseball. Tournament positions are confirmed on a first-paid, first-confirmed basis.
Rule 15.2Team Withdrawal
A team choosing to withdraw from the tournament after completing registration must notify Coastline Select Baseball as soon as reasonably possible.
Unless otherwise approved by the Tournament Director, all tournament entry fees are non-refundable following registration. Tournament planning, scheduling, facility commitments, and operational expenses begin well before the event, and each registered team occupies a tournament position that may prevent another team from participating.
If Coastline Select Baseball is able to replace the withdrawing team with another paid entry before the tournament begins, the Tournament Director may, at their sole discretion, issue a full refund, partial refund, or tournament credit. This decision is entirely at the discretion of Coastline Select Baseball and is not guaranteed.
Rule 15.3Weather & Unforeseen Circumstances
Every reasonable effort will be made to complete the advertised tournament format. However, severe weather, unsafe field conditions, facility closures, or circumstances beyond the control of Coastline Select Baseball may require delays, schedule modifications, shortened games, or cancellation of tournament play.
Rule 15.4Weather Refund Schedule
If tournament play is interrupted before the guaranteed number of games has been completed, refunds of the tournament entry fee shall be administered as follows:
No games completed: 100% refund of the tournament entry fee.
One (1) completed game: 50% refund of the tournament entry fee.
Two (2) completed games: 25% refund of the tournament entry fee.
Three (3) or more completed games: No refund shall be issued, as the advertised game guarantee has been fulfilled.
Rule 15.5Umpire Fees
Umpire fees are collected on a per-game basis immediately before each scheduled game. If a game is not played, no umpire fee shall be collected for that game.
Rule 15.6Tournament Credits
When appropriate, Coastline Select Baseball may, at the sole discretion of the Tournament Director, issue a credit toward a future Coastline Select Baseball event instead of a monetary refund. Tournament credits are not guaranteed and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Rule 15.7Acceptance of Tournament Policies
Submission of a tournament registration and payment of the entry fee constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of all Coastline Select Baseball Tournament Rules, Policies, and Procedures, including this Registration, Cancellation, and Refund Policy.
Rule 15.8Final Authority
The Tournament Director shall retain final authority over all matters involving registration, withdrawals, refunds, tournament credits, weather-related adjustments, and event cancellations. All decisions made under this policy shall be final.

Coastline Select Baseball was founded with a commitment to providing professionally organized youth baseball tournaments that emphasize integrity, accountability, sportsmanship, and respect for the game. While every effort has been made to address the most common situations through these Official Playing Rules, no rulebook can anticipate every circumstance that may arise during tournament competition.
Participation in any Coastline Select Baseball event represents an understanding that all teams, coaches, players, parents, and spectators share the responsibility of helping create a positive, competitive, and family-oriented environment. Every individual attending a Coastline Select event is expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the game of baseball and on the youth athletes competing.
Rule 16.1Acceptance of Tournament Policies
By registering for or participating in a Coastline Select Baseball tournament, each team acknowledges that it has reviewed and accepts the Official Tournament Rules, Policies, and Procedures established by Coastline Select Baseball.
Head coaches are responsible for ensuring that their players, assistant coaches, team representatives, parents, and spectators understand and comply with these policies throughout the event.
Rule 16.2Matters Not Specifically Covered
No tournament rulebook can address every unique circumstance that may occur during competition.
Should a situation arise that is not specifically addressed within these Official Playing Rules, the Tournament Director shall interpret the rules in a manner that preserves player safety, competitive fairness, sportsmanship, and the overall integrity of the tournament.
Such interpretations shall become the official ruling for that situation.
Rule 16.3Authority to Modify Tournament Operations
Coastline Select Baseball reserves the authority to make reasonable adjustments to tournament operations whenever necessary due to weather, facility limitations, safety concerns, scheduling conflicts, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Operational adjustments may include, but are not limited to:
Modifying game schedules.
Adjusting field assignments.
Revising time limits or tournament format.
Consolidating divisions when necessary.
Implementing operational procedures required for the successful completion of the event.
Whenever practical, participating teams will be notified as soon as possible regarding any tournament modifications.
Rule 16.4Responsibility for Team Personnel
Each head coach accepts responsibility for the conduct of all individuals associated with their team, including assistant coaches, players, parents, family members, and spectators.
Tournament officials reserve the authority to address inappropriate behavior from any individual whose conduct negatively affects the tournament environment.
Rule 16.5Tournament Communications
Official announcements distributed by Coastline Select Baseball shall serve as the primary source of tournament information.
Teams are responsible for remaining informed regarding schedules, weather updates, field assignments, tournament notices, and other official communications throughout the event.
Rule 16.6Respect for Tournament Facilities
Participating teams are expected to respect all tournament facilities and surrounding property.
Each team is responsible for leaving its dugout, bench area, and spectator space in a clean condition following every game.
Any damage caused by a team or its spectators may result in financial responsibility and/or disciplinary action as determined by the Tournament Director.
Rule 16.7Photography, Video & Promotional Media
Coastline Select Baseball may photograph or record tournament activities for promotional, educational, historical, or marketing purposes.
Participation in a Coastline Select Baseball event constitutes permission for the organization to use photographs or video captured during tournament activities in future publications, advertising, social media, or other promotional materials without additional compensation.
Rule 16.8Official Rule Interpretation
Only the Tournament Director has the authority to issue official interpretations of Coastline Select Baseball Tournament Rules.
Any interpretation or administrative decision made under this authority shall be considered final and shall not be subject to further review.
Rule 16.9Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Coastline Select Baseball is committed to continually improving its tournaments through thoughtful evaluation, feedback from participating organizations, and ongoing review of tournament operations.
The organization reserves the right to revise or update these Official Playing Rules between tournament seasons whenever improvements are determined to be beneficial to the overall participant experience.

Coastline Select Baseball has established the tournament rules outlined in this rulebook. Any situation, play, or rule that is not specifically addressed will be governed by the current NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) Baseball Rules. If there is ever a conflict between this rulebook and the NFHS rules, the Coastline Select Baseball tournament rules will take precedence.
