Age Eligibility

Eligibility is determined strictly by date of birth. No grade exceptions are permitted. Playing up is permitted. Playing down is prohibited.

No new inning begins after the official game time has expired. The 12U Championship Game will be six innings with no time limit. The mercy rule remains in effect.

Mercy & Run Rules

Both teams must have an equal opportunity to bat before the mercy rule applies unless the home team reaches the required lead during the bottom half of the applicable inning.

Stealing & Leadoffs

A foul ball on the final pitch keeps the at-bat alive. A batter hit by a coach-pitched ball is not awarded first base.

Tournament Policies

These policies apply to every Coastline Select event and every age division. Registration confirms that your organization has read and accepted them.

Fall 2026

Player Age Standard

Coastline Select believes player eligibility should be clear, consistent, and easy for every organization to understand. For that reason, eligibility for our Fall 2026 events will be based solely on each player’s date of birth.

Because Fall 2026 begins the 2027 competitive baseball cycle, the following birthdate requirements will apply:

Birthdate only. No grade exceptions.

Coastline Select uses one eligibility standard: the player’s date of birth.

A player’s school grade, graduation year, academic placement, or eligibility with another league or tournament will not change the Coastline Select age requirement. Grade-based exceptions will not be approved under any circumstances.

A player whose birthday falls directly on the applicable May 1 date is eligible. A player born before that date must move into the next eligible age division.

Playing up is permitted. Playing down is prohibited.

Team responsibility

Every team is responsible for reviewing its roster and confirming that all participating players meet the Coastline Select birthdate standard before entering the event.

Coaches must have reliable proof of age available during the tournament. Coastline Select may request a birth certificate, passport, or government-issued record showing the player’s legal name and date of birth.

Coastline Select may verify a player’s eligibility at any point before or during the event. If the requested documentation is not produced, the player may not participate until the Tournament Director is satisfied that the player is eligible.

Strict enforcement

An overage player, an altered document, inaccurate roster information, or any attempt to bypass the Coastline Select age standard may result in one or more of the following:

  • The player being removed from the tournament;
  • Forfeiture of games in which the player appeared;
  • Loss of playoff or championship eligibility;
  • Disqualification of the team from the event; or
  • Additional restrictions on the organization’s participation in future Coastline Select events.

Teams removed or penalized for an age-eligibility violation will not receive a refund or tournament credit.

The Coastline Select Tournament Director will review all eligibility matters and issue the final decision. Registration confirms that the team understands this standard and accepts responsibility for every player listed on its roster.

Every division

Registration Commitment and Team Withdrawals

Submitting payment does more than place a team on our tournament list. It causes Coastline Select to reserve space within a division and begin planning fields, opponents, game times, officials, staffing, equipment, and awards around that team’s participation.

If a team later decides that it cannot attend, the following terms will determine whether a tournament credit is available.

Seven or more days’ notice

When Coastline Select receives a written withdrawal request at least seven full calendar days before the event begins, the team will receive a future-event credit equal to its tournament entry payment.

Six or fewer days’ notice

When written notice is received six or fewer calendar days before the event, but before the official schedule is distributed, 50% of the team’s entry payment will remain available as a future-event credit.

After schedule distribution

Publishing the schedule represents Coastline Select’s final commitment of fields, game slots, officials, staffing, and other tournament resources. Once the schedule has been released, an exiting team will not qualify for a refund or credit.

Team-related circumstances

The following situations are considered team withdrawals and do not qualify for reimbursement after the applicable deadline:

  • League or tournament conflicts;
  • Coaching or player-availability issues;
  • Transportation or travel problems;
  • Failure to secure the required insurance or documents;
  • Disagreement with an assigned opponent, field, date, or game time;
  • Failure to arrive with enough eligible players;
  • Refusal to participate in a scheduled game;
  • Forfeiting or leaving before the team’s tournament schedule is complete; or
  • Removal for misconduct, an eligibility violation, or another breach of tournament rules.

Official notice

A team’s head coach or authorized organization representative must send the withdrawal directly to Coastline Select in writing. The date and time the notice is received will determine which portion of this policy applies.

Informal conversations, comments made to tournament staff, or messages passed through another team will not remove a team from the event.

Credit terms

A Coastline Select tournament credit:

  • Remains valid for 12 months from the original event date;
  • Stays with the team or organization that submitted the original payment;
  • May be used only toward entry into another Coastline Select tournament;
  • Cannot be sold, transferred to an unrelated organization, or exchanged for cash; and
  • Cannot be combined with another discount or promotional offer unless Coastline Select approves it in writing.

Bank charges, card-processing costs, insurance expenses, merchandise orders, and other amounts already committed or paid to outside providers are excluded from all credits.

If a division cannot be played

If Coastline Select determines that a division cannot operate because it does not have enough participating teams, the affected teams may choose from the options made available by the Tournament Director. These may include transferring into a suitable division, moving the full entry payment to another Coastline Select event, or receiving the entry payment back minus nonrecoverable processing charges.

No team will be placed into another age division without first agreeing to the change.

Weather-related changes

Rain, lightning, field closures, and similar conditions are governed by the separate Coastline Select Weather Policy, which will be published on this page. Until it is published, weather-related adjustments are determined by the Tournament Director. A team may not avoid that policy by voluntarily withdrawing after weather becomes a concern but before Coastline Select makes an official decision.

Exceptional circumstances

Coastline Select may review a documented emergency individually, but an exception is never automatic. Any adjustment must be authorized in writing by the Tournament Director. A decision made for one team does not create a requirement to make the same decision for another team.

Registration and payment confirm the team’s acceptance of this policy and its commitment to participate.
